Pricing
What Mux costs. Provider list prices passed through, plus a fee when you buy credits.
Mux charges the providers' own list prices for each request, with no per-request markup. The only fee is a small one when you buy credits.
Per-request prices
| Model | Per 1,000 requests | Included results | Extra result | Latency |

The table above is loaded live from GET /v1/models. Prices are current list prices and can change; the price you see for a model is the price you pay. Each model's price covers 10 results per request.
Extra results
Asking for more than 10 results costs a little more on Exa and Parallel: an additional per-result charge for every result beyond the tenth (shown in the table as the price per 1,000 extra results, per request). Keenable's price doesn't change with result count.
For example, with exa/auto at $7.00 per 1,000 requests and $1.00 per 1,000 extra results:
max_results |
Cost |
|---|---|
| 10 | $0.0070 |
| 25 | $0.0070 + 15 × $0.0010 = $0.0220 |
| 100 | $0.0070 + 90 × $0.0010 = $0.0970 |
You are billed for the number of results you request, after it is capped to the model's maximum (50 for Parallel and Keenable, 100 for Exa). Results removed by your domain filters still count, since the provider still returned them.
Credit purchases
Mux is prepaid. You buy credits with a card through Stripe, and requests draw them down.
- Minimum purchase: $5. Maximum: $10,000 per purchase.
- Fee: 5.5% of the amount, with a minimum of $0.80. The fee is taken from what you pay, so you receive credits equal to the amount minus the fee.
| You pay | Fee | Credits added |
|---|---|---|
| $10 | $0.80 (minimum) | $9.20 |
| $50 | $2.75 | $47.25 |
| $100 | $5.50 | $94.50 |
Because of the minimum, the fee is $0.80 for any purchase up to about $14.55, and 5.5% above that. Larger, less frequent top-ups are the cheapest way to buy.
The live fee terms are available from GET /v1/credits/pricing (see Credits and usage). Credits are in US dollars.
When you aren't charged
- A failed provider call. Mux reserves the price before calling the provider and refunds it if the call fails or times out. If it then falls back to another model, only the model that succeeds is charged. See Models.
- A rejected request. Requests that fail validation, fail authentication, or are blocked for insufficient credits or by an API key's credit limit cost nothing.
- A fully failed request. If every model fails you get
502 all_providers_failedand your balance is unchanged.
Refunds appear in your ledger as refund entries next to the usage entry they reverse.
Bring your own keys
If you connect your own provider account, requests to that provider are billed by the provider directly and Mux charges only a small fee after a generous free tier:
- The first 1,000,000 requests each month are free. The count is per account, per calendar month (UTC), across all providers.
- After that, 5% of the model's list price per request, deducted from your credits. For example, an
exa/autorequest with 10 results has a list price of $0.007, so the fee is $0.00035. - The fee is refunded if the call fails.
See Bring your own keys.
Key limits
You can cap how much an individual API key can spend with a credit limit. Limits only restrict spending; they don't change prices.
