Terms of Service
Last updated October 12, 2026
These terms govern your use of Mux (“Mux”, “we”), the web search API and dashboard at getmux.io and api.getmux.io (the “Service”). By creating an account or sending a request you agree to them. If you use Mux for a company, you confirm you can bind that company.
1. What Mux does
Mux routes your search requests to third-party providers (currently Exa, Parallel and Keenable) through one API, one key and one balance. We are an independent service and are not affiliated with those providers. Results come from them; we do not guarantee their accuracy, completeness or availability.
2. Your account
- You sign in with Google. You must be at least 18 and provide accurate information.
- You are responsible for everything done with your API keys and management keys. Keep them secret and rotate or disable any that leak. Spend limits you set on a key are a safeguard, not a guarantee against misuse.
- One person or company may not use multiple accounts to avoid limits or bans.
3. Credits and payment
- Mux is prepaid. You buy credits through Stripe; each request debits the listed price of the model used from your balance before the call is made. Failed provider calls are refunded automatically.
- Prices and the purchase fee are shown on our site and via
GET /v1/creditsat the time of purchase. We may change them for future purchases and requests, with the change taking effect when published. - Credits are not money, do not earn interest, and cannot be transferred. Refunds are covered in our Refund Policy.
- You are responsible for any taxes that apply to your purchases. Stripe may add them at checkout.
4. Bring your own keys
If you add your own provider keys, they are encrypted at rest and used only to make your requests. You remain bound by that provider’s terms and pay them directly. Mux’s BYOK fee applies as described in the docs.
5. Acceptable use
You may not use the Service to:
- break the law or infringe anyone’s rights;
- attack, probe or overload Mux or the providers behind it, or bypass rate limits, spend limits or authentication;
- resell raw access to the Service as a competing search API without our written consent;
- breach the terms of the underlying providers, or use results in ways those providers prohibit.
We may suspend or terminate access, with or without notice, if we reasonably believe you have broken these rules or put the Service at risk.
6. Your content and results
You keep your rights to the queries you send and your rights in your own data. You give us permission to process them as needed to run the Service. Search results are third-party content and may be subject to the providers’ terms and to the rights of the original publishers.
7. Availability and changes
We work to keep Mux running but do not promise uninterrupted service. Features may change or be retired; we will try to give reasonable notice of changes that break the API.
8. Disclaimer
The Service is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, to the fullest extent the law allows.
9. Limit of liability
To the extent the law allows, Mux is not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or lost profits or data. Our total liability for any claim relating to the Service is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose.
10. Ending your account
You can stop using Mux and ask us to close your account at any time. We may close accounts as described above. Sections that by their nature should survive (payment obligations, liability limits, disputes) will survive.
11. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. If a change is material we will post it here and update the date above; continued use after that means you accept it.
